Autonomy

Paradox Opera returned to virtual and live stages with Autonomy, a reactive opera and art gallery experience created in response to the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade. This project brought together voices from across the artistic and gender spectrum to affirm the human right of autonomy. Paradox presented a concert of new works by women and non-binary composers, performed by soprano Alissa Roca and Anja Arko, with performances taking place online, outside the North Carolina Legislative Building in Raleigh, and alongside a curated gallery of new visual works by artists of all genders and sexualities. These pieces were meant to be experienced together, forming a unified multimedia environment that invites reflection, solidarity, and shared presence.

Calling for Jane

"Calling for Jane" was inspired by the work of the Jane Collective who provided roughly 11,000 safe abortions in Chicago from 1969 to 1973.

Lauren Lisinki, Chatham Life & Style

"'Calling for Jane' ...was my favorite of the night as it offered a more innocent yet fearful tone than the more emotionally heavy works. It also centers ...an old practice that is soon likely to become a reality for many should things continue the way they are."
